Mataderos Fair: Argentine crafts and traditions
The Fair of Argentine Crafts and Popular Traditions, known as the Mataderos Fair, brings together around three hundred stalls of crafts and regional food, with folk music and gaucho skills. It is the city's most traditional Sunday outing.

- It is far from the centre: allow around an hour by bus from downtown, or take a taxi or ride-hailing app. Check the route before you set out.

The fair is a full-day outing: people eat at the regional food stalls, watch the stage and, depending on the day, see gaucho skills in the street. Arriving around midday lets you have lunch there.

This is the best place in the city for traditional and regional crafts: mate gourds and straws, knives, silverwork, braided leather and textiles. Ask where each piece comes from and who made it.
